My wife and I celebrated our eighth wedding anniversary on Wednesday, and got a (rare) grown-ups’ night out on the town, courtesy of Grandma (thanks Mom!). We went to see Matrix Revolutions and then to a nice dinner. The movie was decent, although not up to the instant-classic level of the original Matrix film. It even answered many of the questions elicited by the second film. We’re going to wait to get either #2 or #3 on DVD until the full-blown special editions are released sometime late next year. I won’t be chomping at the bit for that one, at least…

p>…As opposed to the upcoming 4-disc extended special edition of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which is coming out a week from next Tuesday. I’m already hearing advance reviews of the new cut which universally conclude that it is, just like the extended Fellowship of the Ring DVD cut, even better than the spectacular original. I’m getting my running shoes on already.

Did I mention that we are performing on Tuesday Nov. 11 at Jammin’ Java? NO? Well, isn’t that the darndest… at least now you know. Come out and give up some love. You’ll hear a few surprises, including new takes on some of our album cuts. And of course we’ll have plenty of goodies for sale, including fashionable new stickers, just right for attaching to mirrors in better restrooms throughout the region!

Oh man, sorry I haven’t written in over a week. I was sick for several days and then I just got busy. :-( But here I am, back with not a whole lot to talk about except I’m awaiting the release of Fedora Core 1, for which I helped work on the testing during the pre-release period. It’s an exciting time for Linux!

p>We saw Ang Lee’s Hulk film this weekend, and it was truly great… except for the editing. The movie takes a whole-hearted and mostly successful stab at turning a comic book concept into a real human drama, and it’s undermined not by the CG effects (which are great nonetheless), but by the editing style which adds an unwanted “comic book” feel to the movie and undermines the great work of the actors and director. The script is strong and dripping with metaphor for some really tasty scenes. Recommended.

p>I’ve been playing more Stick lately with Leah during rehearsals, and it’s been a lot of fun. We are sort of “re-discovering” songs by destroying and rebuilding the arrangements as we go. Some very tasty grooves were developed last week, and hopefully more tonight. TTFN!
