One of my favorite actors finally got the notice he deserves. When I first saw him in “Boogie Nights” and “Hard Eight,” I was riveted. And did you see him plant one on Meryl Streep? Hoo-ah.

Why can’t the Oscar producers figure out a way to honor the deceased luminaries without the Applause-O-Meter? I always feel bad for the sound editor no one’s heard of, who, likely as not, was a wonderful guy who deserved some applause for his work.
